How to Forward Text Messages to Slack

Why Forward SMS to Slack?

Forwarding SMS to Slack helps you:

Prerequisites

Before setting up Slack forwarding, make sure you have:

  1. Forward SMS app installed
  2. iOS Shortcuts automation configured (Required first step)
  3. ✅ Slack workspace with permissions to create apps and webhooks

Setup Steps

Step 1: Create Slack Incoming Webhook

To forward messages to Slack, you need to create an incoming webhook:

  1. Go to https://api.slack.com/apps
  2. Click Create New App
  3. Select From scratch
  4. Enter app name (e.g., "SMS Forwarding") and select your workspace
  5. Click Create App
  6. In the app settings, click on Incoming Webhooks in the left sidebar
  7. Toggle Activate Incoming Webhooks to On
  8. Scroll down and click Add New Webhook to Workspace
  9. Select the channel where you want to receive messages
  10. Click Allow
  11. Copy the Webhook URL (it looks like https://hooks.slack.com/services/T00000000/B00000000/XXXX...)

Important: Keep this webhook URL private. Anyone with the URL can send messages to your Slack channel.

Now add the Slack webhook to your Forward SMS app:

  1. Open Forward SMS app
  2. Tap Create New Rule or "+" button
  3. Select Slack as the destination type
